John Davies and Sons Funeral Directors was established in approx 1900 by Mr John Davies of Park Terrace, Trelewis. With trades including Wheelwright, Coachbuilder, and Undertaker, John Davies Snr was one of the many Undertakers in the area covering Treharris, Trelewis and Nelson during that time. At a later stage, he was joined by three of his sons, Emlyn, Elvet & Gwyn, who, in addition to carrying out duties related to the Funeral business, also carried out building repairs and operated a taxi service. Over time, the coachbuilding and building repairs aspects to the business declined, and ultimately the main focus of the business was the Funeral Directing. John Davies & Sons Funeral Directors Ltd was incorporated as a Private Limited Company in 1994 and is now run by the Grandson of the John Davies Snr. The business still operates from Park Terrace, Trelewis, where, in addition to our office we also have a Chapel of Rest. We also have an office at 2 Sandward House, Heol Penallta, Gelligaer, serving Gelligaer, Penallta, Hengoed, Bargoed, Ystrad Mynach and surrounding area.
